Where do I buy tickets?
Buy public tickets here.
Is there an age limit?
Public visitors need only be old enough to get themselves to the event.
Can I bring something I built?
Public visitors are not permitted to bring LEGO. The expo is primarily a viewing, not participating, event.
What's an "AFOL?"
Pronounced almost like a dirty word, AFOL is an Adult Fan Of LEGO
. BrickFair is run by AFOLs, for AFOLs.
What's a "MOC?"
Pronounced "mock," a MOC is My Own Creation
. Anything we build which isn't an official LEGO company design, regardless of size or success, is a MOC. The key BrickFair feature is enjoying each others' MOCs.
Can I buy LEGO there?
Absolutely! Vendors will be there selling all sorts of LEGO stuff!
Does BrickFair travel to other cities?
BrickFair is held only in the DC area, one weekend each August.
Other events: Brickworld
outside Chicago each June, BrickCon
in Seattle each October, Bricks By The Bay
, a new one, near San Fran in Spring, sometimes BrickFest
in Portland in Spring, and next year new one, BrickMagic, in Raliegh in Spring.
These events are similar, but they are unique organizations run by different AFOLs. We cannot answer questions about them. BrickFair is the largest LEGO Fan Festival in America. But if money or time is an issue, we recommend visiting the event closest to you.
No strollers.
Strollers are not permitted in the expo. A stroller parking area is provided (use at own risk), or leave the stroller in your car.
How many people attend BrickFair?
In 2008 a over 10,000 people enjoyed the expo (we violated a few fire codes). In 2009, forced to briefly close our doors for public safety, we welcomed 7,565 people who waited in line up to 25 minutes.
In 2010 we move to the Dulles Expo Center with double the space and double-wide aisles.
How many people display?
In 2008, 402 AFOLs shared their passion - a national record. In 2009 we hosted 636; another U.S. record.
LEGO fan festivals are on the rise. We are proliferating, and growing in size and popularity. LEGO is a timeless toy which is becoming even more popular in a depressed economy. A day or two spent at BrickFair or similar event is comparable to a more expensive vacation. Kids walk out beaming from ear to ear. I am proud to be part of the festival scene in this day, when festivals are young, growing, and all about the people. Sentimental rant over.
How long is the show?
The expo is a free-roaming event. Enjoy the show at your own pace. We suggest allowing 90 minutes minimum to see everything. Doors close at 4:00pm. The expo is vacated at 4:30pm. Entrance is not permitted after 4:00pm.
How long is the line?
Sometimes 25 minutes, sometimes non-existent, the line is difficult to predict. The longest we've seen, over 200 yards, was a 25-minute walk.
Are credit cards accepted?
BrickFair entrance accepts cash and checks only. An ATM machine is located inside the main entrance. BrickFair cannot guarantee the ATM is working or loaded.
Some vendors (not all) accept credit cards. But cash will greatly speed your service.
What else is for sale at BrickFair?
You'll need money for the entrance fee, and possibly LEGO vendors and food.
Parking is free.
Our charity thanks you.
Your $7/$10 entrance fee includes a $1 donation to our children's charity.
Wear comfortable shoes.
The Dulles Expo Center is all concrete floors.
Is food nearby?
The Dulles Expo Center has an on-site cafeteria. And every fast food joint imaginable lies within 500 yards of the building.
Can I bring food?
Sorry, food may not be brought into BrickFair. A cafeteria is on-site, in the building.
A cup of cheerios for your baby is one thing, but bringing in McDonalds for your 4 kids is another.
Is BrickFair wheelchair accessible?
Yes, all 80,000 square feet of BrickFair is on one floor, and our 20-foot wide aisles are easily navigable.
