Dirty Brickster

Dirty Brickster will be held Saturday after the evening's ceremonies.  All attendees are welcome to play.  This is not a public event.

You don't need to sign up for anything; just show up at the designated time and place with a wrapped gift in hand.

How To Play:

Dirty Brickster is better known (in the USA) as "White Elephant Gift Exchange," "Yankee Swap," or "Dirty Santa."  The objective is for playsers to each contribute one gift to the game, and ultimately each player walks away with one different gift.

  1. All gifts should be valued between $20 and $30.  Use your imagination to make it fun.  Out-of-production sets or some classic parts from your own collection are far more interesting that something off the Toys R Us shelf yesterday.
  2. Players bring their gifts wrapped or sealed in a gift bag, careful to conceal the contents of the gift.
  3. Players gather in a circle and gifts are placed in the center.
  4. Names are drawn to see who picks first.
  5. The picked player chooses a gift from the pile and opens it, holds it up for all to see, and keeps it for the time being.
  6. Another name is drawn.
  7. He can either choose to take an unopened gift from the pile or to steal a gift from any previous gift-opener.
  8. If someone's gift is stolen, that person can immediately unwrap a new gift or steal another gift.
  9. Any gift stolen 3 times becomes "dead."  It now belongs to that owner and may not be stolen again.
  10. Owners of live gifts must keep them visible and hold them up when requested.
  11. After all turns have been taken, the person who went first has the option of taking one more turn since he had the disadvantage of not knowing what any of the now-opened presents were in the beginning.  However, he may not take any dead gifts nor may he steal back any gift that was stolen from him.
